It was cold in Xian. Very cold!
Got back from China just in time for proctoring? Picked up your tests and immediately graded them. Most of you know what the results were so you will not be surprised tomorrow (Thursday the 18th) when you get them. Mostly you did OK. The ones who actually watched all their movies did better as they were able to cross reference their writings with the movies they watched.
Music! It is music time. Tomorrow you will get a CD full of music. Each CD will have six folders representing Folk, Negro Spiritual, Gospel, Early Jazz and two Blues. Your job, since you have chosen to take this course, is to choose a song you like from each of the six folders (yes, you will have two blues songs) and blog the music. Listen to the music. Go find the lyrics of the songs you like and blog them. Find out about the singer and blog him or her. Have fun and learn about American music from the beginning up to the 20th Century.
Music is very much part of American culture. You should have seen this in your Civil War movies and your Western Expansion movies. Songs here. Songs there. Dancing over there. Dancing over here. Americans are, by nature, a very musical people. Tell why you think this is true via the music you choose.
